Album Review: Kaytraminé, A Vibrant Fusion of Hip-Hop and Electronic Magic
As the summer breeze rolls in, there's one album that has been on my radar. I’m a big fan of Aminé and KAYTRANADA. Aminé has proven his ability to craft the perfect summer anthem time and time again.
On Twitter, the rapper revealed a conversation between him and KAYTRANADA back in 2014 where he mentioned wanting to work together sometime. He also mentions a time early in his career when KAYTRANADA motivated him to not give up on pursuing music.
Kaytraminé, the self-titled album, includes guest spots from Big Sean, Amaarae, Snoop Dogg, Freddie Gibbs, and Pharrell Williams, who’s on the project’s lead single, “4EVA.”
The best tracks on the album are probably a tie between Master P [ft. Big Sean], Sossaup [ft. Amaarae], Ugh Ugh, and the last track K&A.
On “Master P,” Big Sean's flow elevates the track and injects it with explosive energy. The outro is spacey and melodious giving it an otherworldly feel, reminiscent of something you might hear in a PS2 game.
"Sossaup" immediately grabs your attention with its drum work. The beat pulls you in, creating a sonic landscape that's hard to resist. Bound to get your head nodding.
“Ugh Ugh” was my favorite track on the project though. Sonically, it stands out as the album's most textured and vibrant track. I can envision myself blasting in the car all summer.
From Twitter conversations to musical brilliance, Kaytraminé is a fun collaboration that lives up to the anticipation. Aminé and KAYTRANADA prove why they are a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
Kaytraminé made a slap, call it Will Smith.
